FRESH START PLAN

In the first 30 days, the Executive Board and I will review all contracts, end contracts with no value for our members and begin meeting with all departments to streamline services and programs and conduct a comprehensive audit of IAFF staff pension plans. With those results, we will put together a strategic plan for the IAFF to be vetted by all affiliate leaders.

We'll also review our endorsement process to ensure our members have more input, trim the fat at the top of the organization, allocate more funding for district vice presidents to provide direct assistance to affiliates and invest more power in the Executive Board by requiring their approval on high level staff members.

For our Canadian brothers and sisters, we need to build behavioral health programs and centers to address our members' unique needs within their healthcare system and make sure all our literature, programs, and services are offered in Québécois to better communicate with our Canadian members.

SECURE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING RIGHTS FOR ALL MEMBERS

We need a coordinated and aggressive state and federal strategy to ensure all our members have collective bargaining protections and the ability to negotiate for better wages, benefits, and conditions with federal, state, and local governments.

IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF ALL MEMBERS

These are difficult times for many in our union and their families. Cancer, COVID-19, and behavioral health issues continue to threaten the lives of our members. We need a three-part strategy to improve the quality of life for all members:

  • FIGHT LIKE HELL TO PASS the Expanding Health Care Options for Early Retirees Act, allowing retired firefighters and EMS personnel to buy into Medicare at age 55.

  • Explore a group healthcare plan, administered by the IAFF, that all locals can participate in for lower rates for their members.

  • Fight for strong mental health protections to provide our members and their families with the help they need dealing with mental health crises, like PTSD.

  • Push the next administration for better PPE and access to vaccines.

RETIREMENT SECURITY FOR ALL MEMBERS

Every year, too many of our members are killed and injured on the job, which is why we must have retirement security for our members and their families. With state and local budgets under attack like never before, we need a General President who can work with the next administration to direct federal relief to local and state budgets for first responders. We also need to better track and fund state and local pension fights and provide our locals with the legal tools and assistance they need to fight back more effectively.

DEFEND AGAINST THREATS ON FLSA OVERTIME FOR ALL MEMBERS

With likely challenges coming to the laws that protect overtime pay, we need to better prepare our locals for the political fights ahead with comprehensive legislative and judicial tracking, enhanced coordination between the IAFF and our state and local affiliates, and ensuring our members know what's at stake.
